Like Autumn leaves...

Buckets and buckets full of autumn leaves....

Wonderful beautiful crimson autumn leaves.
But what to do with so many of them,
or how to collect them?

I've never seen this amount of leaves in my life... I see people everywhere blowing autumn leaves off their lawns... blowing them back to the wind which brought them down I suppose.   At least that's what I like to think.

You see, I haven't been able to figure out this one yet... where do all these leaves that are being blown off lawns and yards go to... to someone's else's lawn? So yes, leaves must go back to the wind that brought them down and they swirl and twirl and spin around until finally they all go away to far faraway places... that must be it. Right?

I've never used a leaf blower before. So today I raked and raked for hours... raked the leaves off the grass down onto the forest below... leaves are food for the forest anyway, so I suppose they're at home there...

I have enough autumn leaves to bring some inside for decoration. From the maple tree—small wispy limbs to add color and warmth...

I also did some tidying up in our back porch—put all the flower pots in place; ready now to be filled up with some loveliness, and my statues are each finding their special place in their new habitat... I am happy.

I am scarcely footsteps away from the edge of my forest, and the whole of the space between our house and the forest brims all day long with warm bright light kissed by the cherry hues of autumn.

In the early afternoon the base of the forest on the back of the house looks like water, and sunlight filtering through thin tree branches like quivering reflections of daylight stars... truly magical.

Maybe I should have waited a little longer to do this, but I couldn't resist the temptation, and planted two Peach Drift Rose in the heavy mossy container that the old couple who used to live here long time ago left behind when they left... they're so deer to me and so lovely—both, the old couple whom I'd never had the honor meeting, and the containers... so heavy and green with moss and time... and the Peach Drift roses look perfect in it... I'm so looking forward to those lovely golden yellow and peach flowers! They're suppose to attract butterflies and be resistant to drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat. So they say.  Amazing, isn't it! Ah, but I'm talking about planting roses in November!  Can you believe that! I'm still dumbfounded about that!  I'm just amazed!

Oh and have I mentioned that three of the rooms in our house are carpeted in a 1960 blue carpet? Yeah!

Hope you have a lovely evening my friend!

  2. Hi Ginny... I kind of like it too in my girly room... but really, it needs to go ;) And it's going to happen too! While talking to the owner of the house the other day I happened to mention 'the blue' carpet and how I prefer hardwood floors, and guess what.... I'm getting hardwoods floors tomorrow! Yeah! ;)

  4. Happy Tuesday to me.. I didn't expect to hear from you so soon, but here you are bringing smiles and magic wherever you go. Such a beautiful winter garden with all the warm colors, my favorite time of year. I am envious of all the ladies that truly have a winter, San Diego is beautiful, but always the same weather. I cant wait to see you transform the new house into your home. I so loved the house in the roses and your decorating style. The here and now is nice, but then there is the what if and where ever that is like opening a special gift every day. So glad to visit with you again.

    1. Hi Sherry... one of the things I love about this place is the distinction in seasons--each offering their unique gifts... it's like walking in sunshine every day... right now, mornings are cold... 26 degrees, and yet, as the day progresses it will soon warm up and it is chilly, and lovely and you want to go to Starbucks and have some delicious cinnamon dolce while you sip and look outside and wait for the morning to wake up... truly awesomeness!

Good to see you here, Sherry!

  7. HI Cielo,
Loved looking at the pics of the fall colors. I miss the leaves!! Find a spot in an out of the way corner of the yard/garden, and pile them there to leave and let them compost. You can add grass clippings in the summer, veggie/fruit scraps, tea and coffee grounds, egg shells, and stir it around every year or two, and you will have lovely rich dirt for your future plantings. That is what I always did with my leaves. Just don't put in any weeds that can drop seeds, or you will have more weeds. Enjoy the long, lovely fall. We got 8 inches of snow Sunday night here in AK! Got the paths cleared out, but still need to blow the driveway clear. Getting dark around 5pm now, so no daylight after work now.

  8. The house in the roses was a beautiful place, but the new one either. I think any place where you live you make it your own and beautiful! Wish you good luck at your new place.
