Snow in the deep South

There's a million and one voices out there in the woods beyond our little dormant rose garden. And something magical and beyond marvelous has happened today....

A Northern wind flew by early this morning painting the land in white... grasses, twigs, trees and branches and the deep green of the woods got covered in white...

Snow... snow has the power to conjure up magic...

It speaks to my heart in a thousand songs...

Snow has the power to gather all the birds of the woods by my window...

A swoosh a swish a flapping of wings a scarlet flash a flare a spark a twinkle of red... wings like magical sparks of thunder here and there—the Cardinal.

They have all gathered here all day long—warbles, cardinals, mourning doves, thrushes and wrens and the titmouse...

In a celebration... a merriment.  A thankfulness of the heart of all creature to the Creator of all.

And how can I put my feelings in words and not falter... and still be able to express the purest and absolute language of my soul? And how fully and thankful my little heart of heart is... how grateful I am. For this display of kindness it truly is a miracle...

Remember how just a couple of weeks ago my heart was yearning for some snow? How my soul ached for a taste of the North?... a dream, a taste of those wintery days back at the house in the roses with all my friends the birds that came to visit regularly... the silent white garden, the strange cat, the magic within...

Well, I must had conjured it up somehow... I must had spoken and asked. For who would have thought that Father Winter would remembered me? Bring snow to the South, weave snow white blankets for their sun-warmed beds?.... as if saying "I haven't forgotten you"... A miracle indeed.

What a magical show have the birds put up all day long out in the garden...
I'm thankful,
I'm knitting dreams in the snow....

Has it snowed any in your part of the world yet?

I know that many of you are having a hard time dealing with the strangest of weather this winter and perhaps you find my post somewhat ridiculous, but magic has its way in all sorts of circumstances, and I am thankful for it.

  1. I am glad you got your magical snow, Cielo! We have an abundance here- I would gladly send you TONS if I could. It is magic to me sometimes, too, but I am weary of winter this year. We are MINUS 45 today here with the wind chill.. It sounds like you are doing well in your new home..but I know you must miss the old, too.

You are on my sidebar and have been since your "move". I hope some of the fireflies find their way here- xo Diana

    1. Dearest NanaDiana... what pleasure seeing you here! If you would, please keep all the snow, or send it somewhere far far far away... It was super magical having a snowy day, but boy what a mess it made around here ;)

      Good to see you again!

  2. Oh we got snow also and it's pure bliss. Snow doesn't visit us much in Georgia, just once or twice a year. Glad you shared your day..it's never ridiculous, but more like an old friend who delights in the simple things.

  3. We live in upstate SC and .... it snowed today! So beautiful and the birds were happy at all the bird feeders! Our dog loved playing in the snow! It was the first time in three years we have enjoyed the snow. The world does look magical now!

  4. Your snow and birdies are ever so beautiful...as well as your heart of thanksgiving. It is a strange winter this year. We have not had a winter here in northern california, only sunshine. I have been thankful even though we need rain and snow to keep us from drought in summer. Who can complain when the sun light is dancing through our windows? So I watch the birdies at our birdfeeder in the spring-like sunshine.
I cannot imagine the cold so many are experiencing and I would find it hard to endure.

  5. I think the animals are coming to you to lend you their energy and remind you of the true magic we can see in nature when we take just a few minutes to look and breathe. The snow came to you like sprinkled powdered sugar to remind you of the sweetest things in life. You have the gift to see this magic! Nature is calling you back to your roots.

    1. Oh I'm so excited to see you here... and honored. But of course, you already knew that, right! In case you didn't know it yet, we have met before—long long ago. Was it in a dream? In some celebration in some enchanted woods? Oh yes yes it must had been in a dream... we are so much alike it amazes me sometimes. Yes, kindred spirits sisters indeed.

Be joy. Be love. And give what you are.

  6. Greetings, Cielo. According to goldensnowglobe.com, 4 of the 10 snowiest cities in the US are here in Michigan, so it has worn out its "magical" welcome. I would happily send more your way because I'm running out of places to pile it :) I'm feeding the birds during the day and bunnies by night whilst longing for Springtime. Joanie (in Michigan, but wishing I were in your neighborhood)

  7. I love your new blog! I recently made a very big move as well ~ from Idaho to South Texas. Big change and I am happy in my new home. I kept some property in the mountains of Idaho so if I ever get too homesick I can go back for a visit. Your new blog is lovely and I wish you every happiness.

    Big Texas Hugs,

  8. Lovely pictures Cielo. We've been getting snow on and off since December. We just got a bit more this morning. You have captured winter's beauty magically. Little birdies are truly a blessing. Have a wonderful week Cielo.

  9. We got it. And were in Chattanooga yesterday when the storm hit. It took us 4 hours to go 20ish miles. What a mess it was. Too many curvy hills, too much traffic, etc. But we were luckier than those people stuck in traffic in Atlanta.
I've been wanting snow for weeks. This wasn't that pretty snow that clings to the trees and makes everything look like a winter wonderland. Not sure if I've had my fill of snow yet or not. Your pictures are great.

  10. I just heard of all this snowy ness in the South, and my first thoughts were that you were getting your snow from the post before! Your little birds are going to spread the word that magic is alive in the here and now, AND then you know who will be playing in your gardens. Yep... I loved meeting your little feathery guests. It is time for me to create something or somewhere beautiful. I have been in a state of stasis far too long. You always inspire the daylight into my soul... Thank you... Again.
