In search of the magic mushrooms

For some inexplicable reason, I'm lacking some of that spark of magic of days gone by... have you noticed it too? Ah, it must be life outside the magical garden. It must be.

You see, things are not the same here. I can't seem to find my fairies, and ever since I left my magical garden in the roses have I seen a single bird... who would had thought it, with all that amount of trees and Nature here? But that's how it is...

Sunshine here makes the whole place look different and I miss the soft rustling flight of wings in the chilly winter mornings—my winter visitors the orange bellied robins, my gentle mourning doves, the tiny dark-eyed Junco and the colorful Northern flicker who stayed with me at the house in the roses for the last two consecutive winters...

I miss it all—the birds, the little snow-white clouds that floated about the winter garden, the frozen roses in the frigid air and the cats who loved the garden as much as I did and showed there from time to time just to please me... Oh how I missed them all.

The old man who lived here long long time ago loved roses.  He brought with him all his beloved roses from his previous home, and re-planted them here.  He created a lovely rose garden, but days passed by, and years went by and the garden was left unattended and forgotten, until finally the woods that grow behind the house took over it.

As you can understand, I couldn't leave this rose garden looking so terribly neglected. Could I? I remember that day when I first strolled through it... I thought I heard a small whisper; a wind, a grass tinkled in my ear... It was the roses... the poor things seemed to beckon my attention; weeds dancing all around them... "look at me; please help"—they seemed to begged.

So I employed a professional who's been doing a great job cleaning, and thinning out the woods and pulling weeds like crazy... when this odd cold finally leaves us—oh yes, because it is cold here too you know... when this cold leaves us, I will rake all the leaves, and fertilize the roses and improve the quality of the soil.

But for now I will have to wait. Wait, and dream and hope for a spring overflowing with roses.... I can hardly wait to see what they would look like, what color would they bring to this place, what fragrances... I am lucky. Lucky to have all these roses here, even when all I have for now it's just hope...

Oh magic will find a way to my new garden, I'm sure.

If there's time, tomorrow I will go out to the forest beyond the house and look for those magic mushrooms... you know the ones...

Oh no no... I'm not talking about the psychedelic mushrooms type of mushrooms....

I'm talking about those mushrooms that grow near a secret fairy den...

And grow by the enchantment of fairy magic....

Spreading fairy magic all around...

Good night my friend! Sweet dreams to you!

Oh I'm hoping I'd be able to sleep tonight.

Have you ever had trouble sleeping?

  1. Oh Cielo you have a poetic touch with writing, and I hope you sleep well tonight, and me too. Deep restorative sleep is a blessing. I think having you there will awaken all the good magic in your gardens and the birds and fairies will show up. Maybe they are just shy and waiting to get to know you.

  2. Dear Terra: Oh I do hope those fairies will show up soon... and yes, I do need a doses of that 'good' sleep! Here's a little story for you:

"A lady, with whom I was riding in the forest, said to me, that the woods always seemed to her to wait, as if the genii who inhabit them suspended their deeds until the wayfarer has passed onward: a thought which poetry has celebrated in the dance of the fairies, which breaks off on the approach of human feet. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, "History"

  4. Yep. Sometimes fairies just hide... Or sleep... Or wait for patience...(not my best virtue, I'm afraid.). Your touch will bring new beauty to your new world. I'm so sure of that. It's the holidays... They are a tad melancholy buy deeply joyful all at the same time. ....

I have been sending you an email. Did you change that?

My fairies are scared. I have been cleaning and rearranging... They don't seem to like that at first... Who knows what invisible communities I gave torn apart... It's late. I just put a roast in the crockpot... Too early but I can't sleep either... Wonder who would dream of me... Nightmare? Ha ha!

    1. Dear Gayla "a roast in the crockpot" sounds delicious to me right now! I might have to search for my crockpot as I don't know where it ended up... we went to the rented shed today to find my Christmas tree and decorations among the many way too many things there, and couldn't find it.... I ain't buying a new one so I guess we will have to do without one, unless we take out everything... but I don't think so...

I haven't check my email lately... too many things going on... no time. Did I mention I'm back to work? I have a phobia and a little bit of post dramatic stress... really. That bad it was. Yuck... I don't know what I would do to be able to stay home again. Those months at home back at the house in the roses were the best of my life....

  5. Those roses and the forest whispered for you, to be there awake in their dream of becoming, of blooming again, of this I have no doubt. I know there will soon be a post of the wonder and magic of roses blooming everywhere and then the Fairies will dance their dances again.....I believe for now, they too await with bated breath.

  6. I am working so hard here on my own tiny spaces....the one in the back private, enclosed by wooden fencing, the space in the front open to the street, other homes and cars and passers by. The back I try to keep well with vegetable beds and flowers mixed in but racoons after a dozen years have become mean, repeatedly trying to tear them apart. And much rain brings much mold, its tenacious, and I spend too much time grossed out scrubbing it away, rinsing and scrubbing, and finally hiring someone to pressure wash it, to hopefully see it dry and stay clean for a spell of time so I can see growth of green, flowers and veggies, to feel all my work is worth it....then other things happen and it seems it is all too much for this one human fairy half breed who cannot do what she used to with a wave and a wish. Still I work on, clean, spruce, weed, organize, plan and plant......and always there is one spot, which stops me in my tracks, it brings me that vision, that piece of perfection that is beautiful and that something went right. You have roses, I have bougainvillea's in all kinds of jewel tones.....different flowers but the effects of awe of their beauty and color is the same, it is what we have here that does well, I MUST go with that. :D

    1. Oh bougainvilleas... I always dream of a house graced by the beauty of bougainvilleas, but had never lived in the right zone for them. Now in this semi tropical zone I want hydrangeas... oh I'm dreaming with a balcony embellished by the sweet shadows of blue hydrangeas.

      Much love

    1. Hi Bella... so nice to see you again! Hope everything is well in your lovely world. Yes, I agree.... how lucky I am to have found this rose garden.... another rose garden to love and care for... this one needs a lot of care and love, but who else better than I to do it? I needed a rose garden, and this one needed me... We'll see. Can hardly wait!

  8. I hope you find your fairies. I think they are just taking awhile to catch up with you. So happy you are working on the rose garden.

Put out a couple bird feeders and you will see the birds. We have birds all winter. I love to watch them at the bird feeders. In the spring you will see the robins again.

  9. Yes... it must be all that rain and cold front we're experiencing.... my fairies don't do winter, you know. And it feels very much like winter around here. 27 degrees in the morning. I can hardly believe it.

Oh and I did. This weekend I filled up my favorite bird feeder with some goodies; one of the many feeders I brought from The house in the roses. I also added water on a couple of birdbaths.... unfortunately, I started a full time job and come back home almost at the closing of day... sucks.

  10. A belated welcome to your new home, Cielo! Your new garden is already beginning to look well loved as your far away former garden looked. How perfect that you've found the old rose bushes planted long ago as if someone knew you were coming.

You mentioned that you wondered what to do with the many, many, many leaves and I will tell you what we did. Our 7 acres are well wooded and we don't do anything with the leaves that fall in the woods. After trying to rake the leaves and found it a losing battle the first autumn we were here, we bought a Cyclone Rake that is pulled by our small John Deere lawn tractor. It sucks up the leaves and chops them, so we dump them together to turn into homemade mulch. After time passes, in the winter you can take a shovel, move some of the mulch, and see steam. Real science and ready for the spring flower beds.

    Wishing you well!

    1. Oh I know what you mean... when I first put my magical owl in my magical garden in the roses, I thought about that too, but sooner than soon realized that the birds are smarter than I thought them to be... they never paid any attention to the owl and even stood on its head for a little rest... ;)
