From my magical little world

The snows were approaching fast. I saw it coming. At first, I searched the southern sky for clues, but saw nothing.  No strange music was heard, nothing different… it was the same every evening sky, just as usual.

No evidence of changes foresee in the air either; not a wisp of iciness or the scent of snow hanging from the atmosphere… nothing out of the ordinary, except, perhaps, for the early evening visitor I saw perched on the magical tree….

I recognized him immediately.  “Oh Merlin!” I shouted excitedly...  Fascinated and beyond belief for as you know, I hadn’t seen Merlin since a year and a winter ago, when we were still living at the house in the roses….

Immediately, at the sound of my voice, Merlin rotated his head over 300 degrees in an exorcist-style display of flexibility, and looked straight at me…

Oh he did recognized me alright… of course he did!  In fact, he had flown over 2000 nautical miles from the house in the roses all the way to 'The Here and Now' just because this is winter time and he missed me…

I had been listening to his call around the woods for a while… his eerie kek kek ke kek resonating in the morning air.  All the little friends trembling and scurrying away from him... but now he has finally found me.

Oh by the way, did you notice the large white figure that seems to appear on the background of many of my photographs of the woods?  Really, I cannot imagine what it is…. An imp? A gigantic fairy?  The witch of the woods in Lord of the Ring?  I dunno!

Anyway, as I was saying, I could hardly believed my eyes. “Merlin, is it going to snow again?”  I asked in disbelief.  I then looked up past the magical tree to the southern skies again and I just knew…. right there and then I knew we were under the spell of yet another snow storm.

This is what we woke up this morning... and this is how it's been all day today...  yes, more snow in the South!  I am sorry southerners...  I'm really not the Snow Witch, really... but I do live here now you know! ;)

Poor St Francis frozen to death and still preaching to birds in trees

The woods… the enchanted woods behind our sleepy rose garden…

We put an offer on the little white cottage in the woods (perhaps the name of my new blog?). We haven't heard from the sellers yet. Hoping and waiting.  I'll keep you posted soon!

Is it snowing in your side of the world or are you bathing in sunshine?

Do share!

  2. Hello Dear Cielo, your woods look wonderful in snow. We're expecting another unusual winter storm, this time they're expecting a lot of ice. dangerous and beautiful at the same time! I was looking at a movie that's coming out Valentine's Day and thought it would be something you'd like, 'Winter's Tale' - looks like a romantic, magical tale. I am praying you get your little white cottage - that would be marvelous. Blessings,
    Kathy

  6. We woke up to a winter wonderland too. It's so beautiful.. they tell us more is on the way. My son and I took a stroll through our woods. The snow disguised our path so well that I couldn't tell which way home. I saw the witch's cabin and almost walked towards it thinking it must be the way out. Now, normally I would investigate such a mysterious find, but not with this one. We're not kindred souls so I quickly left following my 16 year old's giant footprints.
Your Merlin is beautiful. I also love birds and have an unusal amount of Robins playing in the field. My husband told me it was a sign of snow coming. I honestly think it was just a co-ink-i-dink...he loves to tease me about such things.
    Take care and God bless.

    1. Your witch in the cabin.... it reminds me of the Ellen, from Pillars of the Earth... the mysterious woman who lived in the woods and was rumored to be a witch because she cursed the men responsible for the execution of her lover... love that movie. And love Ellen.

  11. So excited for you...I hope you get the little whiter cottage. Small is fine especially of there is land around it that you could possibly add on a room later. Merlin is the most beautiful bird. What kind is he? He looks like he knows all and sees all... I'm sure most are tired of the snow, but it's so beautiful. I haven't seen snow for many years, but I remember when the snow is falling there is this silence that is like nothing else and everything is so white and pure looking...a winter wonderland for sure.
Nothing even close here in San Diego, we are headed for more warm weather in the high 70's and low 80's. I like warm weather, but I feel like we have had no winter here at all this year. It would be a real mess here if a miracle happened and we got snow. Californians have a hard time driving when it rains.
Can't wait to hear more about the cottage..I really miss your house in the roses and go back often to look at the wonderful garden...Stay warm......Sherry

  12. We are mostly bathing in sunlight but wish it would rain more since we have a drought. Your winter wonderland is so magical looking. I had a bird, like your Merlin, visit me a few times last month. We are in the last part of the city before a State Park and often get woodland creatures like coyotes, raccoon, possum, and always squirrels. I've seen hawks and heard owls but never in our trees. I used to live near LAX (Los Angeles international Airport) so it's exciting for me to see a peregrine or hawk. Thanks for sharing your magical garden.

    1. So pretty... all the woodland creatures visiting your home... I've always loved the songs of coyotes at night and often dream of how wonderful it would be to live close to their habitat... nothing like being lullaby to sleep by their night call. Truly enchanting.
